Former Blackstars captain, Asamoah Gyan,
has issued a response to the serious allegations made against him by Nana Abena
Kokor Addo, a media personality and mental health advocate.
Abena Korkor had taken to the internet in
a video that quickly gained attention, where she made sensational claims
involving Gyan and fellow football legend, Stephen Appiah. She asserted that
both men had initiated video calls with her, pleading for her to visit their
residences. Furthermore, she asserted that evidence of these calls could be
found with the National Bureau of Investigation (NIB).
On September 14, 2023, Asamoah Gyan chose
to address these allegations directly through an Instagram live session. He
responded with a mixture of frustration and candor, disclosing that he had
indeed attempted to extend his hospitality to Abena Korkor but later realized
she was exploiting his kindness to propagate false narratives about him. Gyan
also cast blame on bloggers and media outlets for providing a platform for
Abena Korkor, even though they were aware of her documented mental health
issues.
Gyan emphasized, “If she comes to you and
you don’t mind her, if she sits in your car and you sack her, if she’s unable
to get to you, that is where she will go and spread rumors about you. You can
also curse if you want. You give her the platform to tarnish people’s image
knowing well that she has a mental problem”

This marks the second instance where Abena
Korkor has included Asamoah Gyan and Stephen Appiah in her claims of sexual
encounters. Her initial allegations surfaced in April 2022, and both men
consistently denied the accusations. As of now, Stephen Appiah has not yet
responded to the recent allegations.
Over the past two years, Abena Korkor has
publicly named numerous male media figures for allegedly making sexual advances
towards her or engaging in sexual activities with her. She has also issued
apologies to some of these men, attributing her actions to relapses or lapses
in her medication. She has openly acknowledged being bipolar and undergoing
treatment with medication.
